They Don’t Care About Us

On May 25, 2020, an African American man named George Floyd was murdered in Minneapolis, Minnesota by a police officer. The officer, Derek Chauvin is now charged with Third Degree Murder and Manslaughter. Three other officers involved in the incident have yet to be charged.

Police brutality against black men and women and other people of color isn’t a new thing. What’s new is the advent of mobile phone video that exposes the awful truth about police brutality and murder. It’s heartbreaking to watch the video of his murder. Our hearts goes out to The Floyd Family.

Michael Jackson spoke of police brutality against black men in the song “They Don’t Care About Us.” The two videos, directed by Spike Lee, shows the effects of institutionalized racism and white supremacy. It explores the mass incarceration of black and brown men, and the effects of racism and poverty of Afro-Brazilians.

With the deaths of Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, George Floyd, and the racist attack of Christian Cooper, we all must advocate for our African American brothers and sisters. Let us raise our voices like Michael did his, and speak out against racism and injustice.

We have linked the videos “They Don’t Care About Us” as well as links to the songs on Amazon, Apple and Spotify. Let’s stream in honor of the fallen victims of racism and police brutality. This song is more poignant now than ever before. Please take care of yourselves and take care of each other.
