MJJForum Statement

Millions of Michael Jackson fans are mobilizing to boycott companies that are advertising on The Discovery Channel, which is the parent company of The Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN).

Recently, Oprah Winfrey hosted a special after the documentary Leaving Neverland aired on HBO. The documentary tells the unchallenged stories of James Safechuck and Wade Robson’s alleged molestation at the hands of the late pop singer, Michael Jackson. Ms. Winfrey’s special, After Neverland, hosted the director, Dan Reed and the two accusers. Both the documentary and after-show aired to low ratings.

“We are very disappointed in Ms. Winfrey, but hardly surprised,” states Evelyn Thompson, President Of MJJForum Fan Community. “Because of Oprah Winfrey’s apparent lack of journalistic ethics and her support of a one-sided, sensationalistic, tabloid driven ‘documentary,’ we as consumers are concerned and therefore making the informed decision not to support companies that advertise on OWN and its parent company, The Discovery Channel.”

Fans of the late entertainer explain that they’re boycotting because of Ms. Winfrey’s decision not to provide any exculpatory evidence, nor use basic due diligence in questioning the accusers of the late King of Pop.

The reason that the Jackson fans are targeting Oprah Winfrey in a boycott is a simple one: Journalistic integrity.

Oprah Winfrey is a legendary media icon. Oprah Winfrey is viewed by millions of people as an unimpeachable source for news and opinion. By giving Dan Reed (director of Leaving Neverland), and accusers James Safechuck and Wade Robson a platform without a thorough investigation of their alleged claims of sexual misconduct is tantamount to journalistic malpractice.

A quick Google search on the accusers will show that their claims of sexual misconduct are spurious at best. It is unfathomable that Oprah Winfrey did not present this evidence and challenge the accusers about their ever changing stories. We would like to know, why?

It’s appalling to see certain celebrities, media and pundits declare that the late Michael Jackson is a pedophile, based on accusers who have repeatedly lied, and are proven to be liars. They have repeatedly changed their stories to fit an untrue narrative, and are now using the #MeToo movement as a cover for their alleged money grab.

Using Safechuck and Robson’s salacious and dubious non-credible claims as a part of the #MeToo movement runs the risk of undermining the very foundation of the movement that was created to support REAL VICTIMS. We warn celebrities who have hopped on this train of painting Michael Jackson as a monster that #MeToo shouldn’t be used as a sledgehammer to condemn someone without proper vetting of both the alleged victim and the accused, especially when the accuser’s credibility is in question.

  1. Absolutely agree 100% with this statement. Incredibly disappointed in Oprah Winfrey hosting this one-sided pack of lies by two compulsive liars, directed by a vacuous ‘journalist’. The four of them should be ashamed of themselves. The truth will out and karma’s a bitch!
